Travel & Stay

Medellín, Colombia

For those traveling in for our wedding, we’re excited to share a few recommendations to help you make the most of your time in Medellín.

From where to stay to what to explore, we’ve curated a few of our favorite spots to help you experience the city the way we do.

Getting to Medellín

The main airport is José María Córdova International Airport (MDE), located about 45 minutes from the city.

Upon arrival, immigration lines can sometimes take a bit of time, so we recommend having the address of where you're staying readily available, as it may be requested.

Once you exit the airport, you'll see many taxi drivers offering rides. While this is common, we recommend using Uber for a smoother and more consistent experience. It’s affordable, easy to use, and what we suggest throughout your time in Medellín.

If you need any help coordinating transportation, feel free to reach out to us.

Where to Stay

We recommend staying in one of the following areas for convenience, safety, and accessibility during your visit.

Each offers a slightly different experience depending on how you’d like to spend your time in Medellín.

El Poblado

The most popular area for visitors, with a wide range of hotels, Airbnbs, restaurants, and nightlife. It’s lively, walkable, and a great place to be if you want to be in the center of it all.

Laureles

A more local and relaxed neighborhood with great restaurants, cafés, and a strong community feel. There are plenty of Airbnb options here, making it a great balance between comfort and authenticity.

Sabaneta

A quieter, more residential area just outside the city, and where we currently live. It offers a more laid-back experience and a chance to see a different side of Medellín — and to be a bit closer to us during your stay.

What to Do

Activities in Medellin, Antioquia

If you're spending extra time in Medellín, here are a few places and experiences we highly recommend.

Provenza

One of the most popular areas in Medellín for restaurants, cafés, and nightlife. It’s a great place to walk around, try different spots, and enjoy the energy of the city, especially in the evenings.

You’ll find a mix of casual and upscale options, all within a lively and social atmosphere.

Comuna 13

One of the most vibrant and culturally rich areas in Medellín, known for its street art, music, and powerful transformation story. You’ll find outdoor escalators, local performers, and incredible views of the city throughout the neighborhood.

It’s best experienced with a local guide to fully appreciate the history and culture.

Parque Arví

A peaceful escape into nature just outside the city, reached by taking the cable car up through the mountains. The ride itself offers incredible views over Medellín and is an experience on its own.

Once there, you can explore walking trails, local markets, and enjoy a quieter, more relaxed side of the region.

Guatapé & El Peñol

A must-do day trip just outside Medellín, known for its colorful streets and the iconic El Peñol rock with incredible views from the top.

We’re planning a group trip the Monday after the wedding — let us know in your RSVP if you'd like to join.
